Technical task, what is it?

Technical task – This is a document on the basis of which the Customer will be able to assess the quality of the already finished site …

Simply put, the TOR is a document that regulates the relationship of the Contractor with the Customer, and contain the necessary requirements, navigation, method of presenting information, the timing and volume for each stage.

That will allow to avoid in the future a conflict between the Contractor and the Customer!

First and foremost, the TK is necessary for the customer himself in order to better understand his own needs and to identify the “white spots” of the future project. You can perfectly understand how everything should be and how it should work, but it is important to describe it in clear words to another person. Especially when you have found a prototype for your future site and are very willing to have the same one, you should be able to describe how it should work in your presentation.

Of course, it is not possible to describe everything in the TK, as many ideas concerning design, navigation and the way of presenting information are created directly by the Contractor, who is a professional in website development. Therefore, the final version of the TOR is being developed jointly. It is important that this document be approved and signed before starting work on the site.

“TK for the development of a site or another project is necessary for both parties – both the customer and the contractor. The client needs to make sure that it is understood correctly and all wishes are taken into account, and the contractor will have to estimate the cost of development and understand what is it want to. “

General recommendations

Each TK is unique and website development requires an individual approach. Therefore, to immediately cover all aspects and create a phased guide to the compilation of a “universal TK”, unfortunately, will not work. Therefore, let’s go through the main points that should be in any task regardless of the project and will be useful for those who are to develop a web site.

The first and basic rule – before drawing up the terms of reference, the customer must clearly understand what he wants to receive as a result. Spend enough time developing a site concept. Start by defining the goals, the specifics of the project, understanding what problem it will solve.

Analyze the web pages of competitors, as there most likely already have similar functionality.

Links to pages with the elements you like can be included in the ToR with brief explanations of what can be repelled in the design of your project. Take screenshots, write comments, put notes – the more your thoughts, the clearer the task becomes.

Make sure that your TK does not contain vague descriptions, parasitic words and unnecessary phrases. The document should not contain abstract instructions such as “clear and easy navigation”. The lack of specifics, punctuation errors and an abundance of unnecessary words can distort the meaning and complicate understanding of the task as a whole, so be especially careful with this.
